A Disappearing Paradise in the Indian Ocean
Zanzibar Excursion
Nakupenda — meaning "I love you" in Swahili — is a magical tidal sandbank that appears from the Indian Ocean just south of Stone Town. At low tide, a pristine white sand bar emerges from the turquoise water, creating one of the most photogenic spots in all of Zanzibar.
The excursion departs by boat from Stone Town and takes about 20 minutes to reach the sandbank. You will swim, snorkel over the surrounding coral reef, and simply enjoy the extraordinary sensation of standing on a sandbar surrounded by nothing but ocean.
The sandbank is only accessible at low tide, which makes each visit unique and time-sensitive — adding to its magic.
Year-round, but timing depends on the tide. We always check the tide schedule before booking. Best during June–October and December–February.
